This website is extremely annoying to my compulsive personality.
Now I have to do whatever it tells me to try and reach 100%, just
to assuage my craving for completion... (Yes, I know that's
basically impossible !). Living in and working from Glasgow, I just
finished a three year MA at Glasgow Uni. I was born in London but
grew up in France, and came back to the UK to study when I was 17.
I carry around a confusing mix of cultures and languages, and long
for a home to hail from. Sound sad? Sometimes it is, but all in all
I think it's left me with the best of several cultures, and an open
mind. Language doesn't matter so much as what you're trying to
say... Being a stranger everywhere means I can look around and see
what's really there. Not always what you'd expect...

films... They affect me too deeply. I love films that have
memorable atmospheres, like all and every Miyazaki film, and in
particular Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. Classics like
Ferris Bueller's Day off, American Beauty, older classics too : A
Matter of Life and Death, Rebecca, Singin' In The Rain, Top
Hat...Music that touches me, carries me away, creates new worlds and changes my view of the world around me. Music that resonates with who I am. Or makes me feel like I'm high even when I'm not... Trentemoller, Amplifier, Monolake, Nine Inch Nails, Nick Drake, Jazz, 'Oldies', Eels, The Avalanches, Charizma & PB Wolf, Ulrich Schnauss, Vaughan Williams...
Books again for a particular atmosphere : Gormenghast, Jonathan Coe books, William Gibson; those writers who, rather than creating characters, bring them to life : Mary Wesley, Daniel Pennac, Raymond Chandler. Books that suck you in, straight to a different world : Terry Pratchett, Eiichiro Oda, manga!

I'm not good with people in the in-between stages. Small-talk goes
fine, and I slip easily into random/silly/trippy/passionate
discussions with friends. But somehow I don't really know how to
get from one stage to the other unless there's an immediate
connection, a rare occurence. I sometimes feel like a confused bull
in a social china shop...I suspect it's just me being confused about social rules in Britain but not sounding or looking obviously foreign enough to be allowed mistakes.
